The Maoer Mountain Resort

The FISU delegates in Harbin continued their inspection in the Yabuli and Maoer Mountain Resorts. The Yabuli ski resort is at 200 km from Harbin and the Maoer resort is about 80 km away from Harbin. In these two resorts all snow sports will be held during the upcoming Winter Universiade 2009. The Yabuli ski resort will stage the Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined and probably Free Style Skiing, which will be an optional sport. The area is very beautiful with outstanding sport facilities which will be still improved in the next two years. Athletes and officials will have at their disposal a new hotel which is being built in Yabuli as well. At this moment the Ski Jumping hills (K120, K90) and the Cross-Country Skiing finish and start areas are under construction and supervised by the FIS homologation commissars.

The Maoer Mountain area is the resort of the Physical and Sport Education University in Harbin. During the Winter Universiade the Snowboarding and Biathlon events will take place there. This venue has very nice facilities with new accommodations. The Biathlon venue is also under construction, supervised by the IBU and will have world parameters. The Snowboarding venue is supervised by FIS. Mr. Liu Xueliang, Vice-Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Vice-President of the OC is convinced that everybody who will come to Harbin will have a wonderful time. On the flight back, the FISU delegates had a stop-over in Beijing, where they met with FISU Executive Committee Member Mr. Zhang. Mr. Tilstra, Roth and Augustin had a fruitful discussion with him concerning the progress of Harbin 2009.
