2013 SU: Evaluation Visit in Vigo - Day 2

Today, April 19th, the Evaluation Group for the 2013 Summer Universiade, spent its second day in Vigo, Spain, Candidate city for the 2013 Summer Universiade. The morning session started with a presentation regarding the different resources for the Games, such as marketing and general income. Roberto Alvarez explained to the FISU delegates how the 2013 SU will be financed and gave an overview of the strategic plan the OC will follow. Mr. Alvarez was head of promotion of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Office.
Pedro Palacios
Then the floor went to Pedro Palacios who explained all media matters and how the OC will deal with press, radio and TV. As already explained in yesterday’s news article, all media personnel will be accredited in the IVEFI trade-fair complex which is at five minutes walking distance from the airport and which will hot the Main Press Center and the International Broadcast Center. Mr. Palacios is journalist and was the Head of Communication of the OC for the 1992 Olympics.
Miranda Kiuri
Next speaker was Architect Miranda Kiuri who gave an interesting perspective on how green these games could be and how the city would benefit from these actions. Mrs. Kiuri is a member of the Environment Commission of the Spanish Olympic Committee and has been responsible for the candidacies of the Olympic Games of Sofia (1992) and Jaca (1998).
Clara Rodriguez and José Harguinday
After the coffee break José Harguinday and Clara Rodriguez explained the Management Systems for the Games: pre-registrations, accreditations, management of volunteers, entrance and departure control, management of results, broadcasting of information. They also gave more insight in the scoring system and timekeeping. After lunch, the Evaluation Group visited the beaches of Samil, where the OC wants to host the optional sport of beach volleyball, and a number of indoor pavilions: Bouzas, Coia, the Balídos Stadion, home of Football club Celtico Vigo, the proposed venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Las Traviesas.
In the last venue the FISU delegates were surprised by a full stadion chanting ‘We Are Ready!’ Vigo's Mayor, Mr. Abel Caballero said to the delegates: ‘This is Vigo, what more can I say?’ FISU Vice-President Stefan Bergh said ’I seldom do not find my words, but this is one of those moments. It is important for a host city to have everybody standing behind it as one man. I wish you good luck with your candidature!’ At 21h00 the FISU delegates were invited by the Mayor of Vigo to an official dinner.
