Cultural program of the Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the 3rd World University Rugby 7 Championship, which is hoisted in Córdoba, Spain, took place yesterday, July 16th in spite of the climate harshness and thanks to the effort of the organization. At the beginning of the ceremony, the FISU Technical Chair for Rugby Alberto Gualtieri, gave the welcome and introduced the members of CISCA of FISU. Later, the national anthem of the organising country was played and the flag was raised. Then the parade of the participating countries began. After the marching-in of the teams the president of the Organizing Committee, Manuel Torres Aquilar (Vice-Rector of Students and Culture of UCO) gave a welcome speech. Then Alberto Gualtieri invited the highest authority of the host country to officially open the championship. The FISU anthem ‘Gaudeamous Igitur’ was played and the FISU flag hoisted. The standard bearer of the Spanish Team, Ignacio Martínez, pronounced the students oath. The participants went to the bleachers, previously reserved of them and from there they followed the rest of the ceremony. Later the cultural program went on, with a passionate flamenco dance that was contemplated by the players from the bleachers.
