2008 WUC Triathlon: Update

From June 27th to 28th, the 9th edition of the World University Triathlon Championship will be hosted in Erdek, Turkey.

City

Erdek, a county of Balýkesir, is an attractive touristic centre with its ancient cities, open-air museum, sandy beaches and crystal clear sea. It was known as Artake in ancient times. Artake experienced the rule of the Milets, Hellens, Romans and Byzantines in 7th century B.C. Artake was conquered by Süleyman Pasha, son of Orhan Ghazi in 1339, and was dominated by Ottomans. The population of Erdek is about 32,000. It is a touristic city which has excellent facilities for visitors to stay. Cultural programmes such as visits to the touristic siteseeing will be organized for the participants. Also city guides and translators will accompany the guests during the championship.

Venue

Erdek has all the facilities required for triathlon competitions. Many championships were organized in Erdek. The distance between the competition venues and accommodation site is in walking distance (less than 1 km). Temperatures in June vary from maximum 28 °C to minimum 24 °C. The Sea water temperatures in June vary from maximum 24 °C to minimum 23 °C. Erdek has hosted several Triathlon competitions in the past and therefore has a great experience in triathlon competitions. Accommodation

All delegations will stay at Agrigento Hotel (3 star-hotel). The delegation of CISCA will stay at a 4 star-hotel. Catering; Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be supplied at the hotel. Moreover, if requested, lunch packages will be provided. The CISCA delegation will have their meals in the same hotel. In addition, an office will be supplied to the CISCA delegation. There will be a phone and a fax machine open to international call, computer with internet access and printer. The judges will be accommodated at different 3 star-hotels. They will have their meals at the same hotel. Competitors and officials will have their meals at the hotels and the meals will be served as open buffet meals. Breakfast: 07:00 – 10:00 Lunch: 12:00 – 14:30 Dinner: 19:00 – 22:00

Transportation

The delegations will be transferred from Atatürk Airport in Istanbul. From Istanbul, the transfers will be provided by sea buses to the hotels in Erdek. For departure of the delegations, the same process will be followed. Local transfers will be provided by the Erdek Municipality. On the race days and for the opening and closing ceremonies the delegations will be taken from the hotels to the competition venue and back. Cars will be provided for the CISCA members.
