March 17th, 2008

Inspection Visit - Day 2

The second day of the inspection visits started with the internal CTI meeting followed by the CTI meeting with the OC and the representatives of the National Sports Federations. Further to this, the inspection visits continued in separate groups. Mr. Warnock, CT Chair Football, started his first day of inspection and visited four competition venues (Zemun, Obilic, Rad and FC Beograd) and two training venues (Teleoptik and Radnicki). The Teleoptik holds four natural grass pitches and one third generation synthetic pitch all in accordance with FSI standards.

Mr. Tennant, CT Chair Volleyball, visited three training venues (Radnicki, Red Star and Vizura). All these facilities are located at a good distance from the Athletes’ Village and need to be completely refurbished except the Vizura training venue which is new. Mr. Clemençon, CT Chair Water Polo, had the opportunity to check one training venue (Obrenovac). One of the two major Water Polo teams in Belgrade, the Red Star, presently uses this venue for competition. Mr. Taborsky, CT Chair Handball, visited to one competition venue (Vozdovac) and four training venues (Vojna Gimnazija, Slodes, Rakovica and Kosutnjak).

Further to the inspection visits, a final internal CTI meeting was held. The meeting was chaired by Stavros Douvis who asked all CT Chairs to give a brief report of the inspected venues for their respective sport. In collaboration with the OC, the CT Chairs will then work on the preparation of the competition and training schedule as well as all technical requirements. During the evening, all CT Chairs and FISU representatives were kindly invited by the OC to attend the Women’s CEV Cup Final Four hosted in the Pionir venue in the city center of Belgrade. It is important to mention that four players (three Serbian and one Italian) had taken part in the volleyball tournament of the 2007 Bangkok Universiade.
