Former FISU Vice-President Receives Highest Award in his Country

Mr. Hironoshin Furuhashi (JPN), former FISU Vice-President from 1991 to 2007, received the highest award in his country at a ceremony held a the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan on November 3rd. His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito bestowed ‘The Order of Culture in Japan’, the most honourable award in the country, to Mr. Furuhashi. The Emperor imparted friendly words to Mr. Furuhashi: ‘Thank you very much for all the great and hard work you have done.’ Mr. Furuhashi, a former swimming champion, is also the Honorary President of the Japanese Swimming Federation, former President of the Japanese Olympic Committee and Vice-President of FINA. There were eight recipients of the Order of Culture this year, including four Nobel Prize Winners. The Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso attended and supported the ceremony.
