December 16th, 2008

FISU Director for Summer Universiade, Marc Vandenplas, and FISU Sports Manager, Michal Buchel, visited Shenzhen, the host city of 26th Summer Universiade (12-23 August 2011). It was for them the opportunity to meet the Organising Committee which already achieved many progresses in their preparation work. The Vice-Mayor of Shenzhen and Director-General of the OC Executive Committee, Mr Daoxing Liang, has welcomed the FISU delegates to this meeting which took place from December 15th to 17th, 2008 and was mainly dedicated to sports and venue management issues.
The OC Executive Committee Deputy Director General, Mr Gangming Ke, the Director of Venue Management and Sports Department, Mr Changfa Li, the Director of International Relations, Mr Robert Wang, the newly appointed assistant to the Chairman of the OC, Mr Shen Zhen (also known by the FISU Family as the Deputy Director International Cooperation and Exchange of the Chinese Student Sports Secretariat of the Ministry of Education and Member of the FISU CIC) as well as other representatives of those departments have met the FISU representatives and have presented the development of their activities. One of the main topics which were discussed was the tentative events program of the 24 sports which are already approved by the EC.
The last day was dedicated to the visit of some of the existing venues. This visit was very fruitful and has allowed both parties to build new channels of communication that will surely lead to a very successful collaboration.
