Inspection Visit of FISU Representatives in Erzurum

From March 13th to 14th, Mr. Roger ROTH, CTI Chair and Milan AUGUSTIN, Director of Winter Universiade traveled to Erzurum, Turkey, host city of the 2011 Winter Universiade for an inspection visit. The intention of the visit was to check all planned sport venues and the Athletes’ Village before the start of construction and meet not only with the highest OC authorities but also with the people in charge of the construction of the sport facilities. At the airport the FISU delegates had an efficient meeting with Airport Director Mr. Erdal CAVUSOGLU regarding the possibilities and improvement of traveling to Erzurum.

Yesterday, March 13th, the FISU delegates tackled a busy program. After a warm welcome at the airport in Erzurum they inspected the following venues: 1. Palandoken Freestyle skiing & Snowboarding Venue, where they met with venue manager Atakan Bey; 2. Palandoken Ice rink which is under construction where they met with local experts Bahri Andig, Serhat Enyuce and Ensar Beyler; 3. Ski Jumping venue.

Working Dinner with the Governor

During their inspection visit, the FISU delegates were accompanied by Mr. Kasim Yekeller, Vice-Governor of Erzurum, Fatih CINTIMAR, Sport Director of Erzurum Province, Enyuce SERHAT, responsible for Ice Hockey in Erzurum and a couple of representatives of the ATATURK University of Erzurum. After the inspection visits they met with Mr. Celalettin Guvenc, Governor of Erzurum for a very fruitful discussion. The meeting was attended by different Media and TV as well. Today, March 14th, the following visits are on the program: 1. Kandilli Nordic Center and Biathlon Center 2. Konakli Alpine Center 3. WU Athletes’ Village
