EC Meeting in Brussels: Day 1
May 13th, 2007
On Sunday, May 13th, the entire Executive Committee met for the first day of meetings. After the approval of the minutes of the EC meeting in Torino, FISU President George E. Killian presented his report outlining the important travels he made to SportAccord in Beijing and the Heads of Delegation meeting in Bangkok. Mr. Killian’s report was followed by the reports of the Secretary-General Roch Campana, the Treasurer, Roberto Outeiriño and the Auditor Adrian Gagea. Kairis Ulp and Pieter Tilstra represented the technical report of the 2007 Winter Universiade in Torino, Italy. After the coffee break Director-General Eric Saintrond gave an overview of the 2007 Summer Universiade preparations as well as the Financial Aid program for developing countries participating in this event. He also stipulated that some 160 hours of live and semi-live coverage for the Games are planned. The Director-General’s report was followed by the CTI, CSU and CIC reports.
Pieter Tilstra and Milan Augustin gave an inspection report of their visit last March of Harbin, host city of the 2009 WU. During the visit the sport venues were inspected and an initial agreement on the program was made which will have free Style skiing, long track speed skating, synchronised skating and women’s ice hockey as optional sports. Mr. Sinica Jasnic gave an update of the sponsoring deals of the 2009 SU in Belgrade.
After the lunch break the EC members witnessed a demonstration on electronic voting This voting device was used for the first time by the IOC at its 2001 vote of President Jacques Rogge. It was decided to use electronic voting at the General Assembly next August in Bangkok. After the coffee break, a number of 2008 World University Championships were attributed: 2008 WUC Match Racing was attributed to Gdansk, Poland 2008 WUC Flat Water Canoeing was attributed to Belgrade, Serbia 2008 WUC Weightlifting was attributed to Athens, Greece (1st edition) 2010 WUC Match Racing was attributed to Gazi, Crete, Greece Also the FISU Patronage for the World University Beach Games, Brazil was granted.
