FISU at IFPC Awards

FISU 1st Vice_President Claude-Louis Gallien and IFPC President and former Olympic and Universiade Champion Jeno Kamuti
On November 7th, at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, the International Fair-Play Committee held its annual Award Ceremony. FISU was represented at this meeting by Mr. Claude-Louis Gallien, First Vice-President and Kolë Gjeloshaj Director of Educational Services and Chief of Staff to the President.
The President of the International Fair-Play Committee, Mr. Jeno Kamuti together with the General-Director of UNESCO, Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura who was accompanied by his Deputy Mr. Marcio Nogueira Barbosa and the IOC Honorary President Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch awarded the prizes. Two other members of the IOC were attending this ceremony as well: Mohamed Mzali and Henri Serandour. The CIFP is giving Trophies and Diplomas in three categories: “Pierre de Coubertin”, “Willi Daume” and “Jean Borotra”. During this ceremony the Declaration “Sport and Fair Play in the 21st Century” was adopted.

Another Former FISU Star on the IFPC Council
Besides its President Dr. Jeno Kamuti (HUN) (Fencing 1959, 1962, 1963 & 1965), the IFPC Council has another former FISU Star as its member. Dr. Elizabeth Ferris (GBR) won two gold medals in diving (Springboard and Platform) at the 1961 Summer Universiade in Sofia, Bulgaria. Mrs. Ferris is also a former Olympian winning a bronze medal at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy. She is a co-founder of the World Olympians Association and was its Vice-President from 1995 to 1997. She’s been a member of the IFPC Council since 1998. Dr. Ferris is a Research Fellow with King’s College at the London University.
