November 12th, 2008

The 'FISU Taskforce Belgrade', nominated by FISU President George E. Killian and composed by 1st Vice-President Claude-Louis Gallien, Assessor Leonz Eder and Secretary-General Eric Saintrond, met at the FISU HQ in Brussels with Zoran Jovanovic, Executive Director of the Universiade Belgrade 2009 in order to get some new informations regarding the progress of the overall preparations for the Games as well of the budget, the sports program, the games management system and the different new venues out of the city of Belgrade which could be used for the team sports. In the presence of Marc Vandenplas, FISU Director of Summer Universiade, they discussed the report of the last Sport Venues Inspection, held November 3-7. The next meetings were also discussed, such as the visits of the CTI Chairpersons for the inspection of the different venues, the medical inspections and the Head of Delegations Meeting which will take place from March 18-21, 2009. Mr Jovanovic assured the FISU delegation of the next steps in the planning of the Universiade. The first important step will be the adoption of the new budget by the Serbian Parliament. He also mentioned that the Serbian Government as well as the Organizing Committee will undertake all possible efforts in order to guarantee the success of the Universiade 2009, which - as decided earlier this autumn - will consist of the compulsory program and the two optional sports, i.e. taekwondo and archery. It was also agreed that during the General Assembly of EUSA, December 6 in Paris, the European NUSF's will be informed about the progress in Belgrade.
