2008 WUC Equestrian: Day 3

Julia Keppel (GER)
The final day of 8th World University Championship started early in the morning with the second round of the Show Jumping event. The knock out system of the elimination round brings together twenty four athletes whom twelve were qualified to the third round. Third round stopped another eight cavaliers. Four of them participated at the semi-finals ride the horses against each other.
The afternoon session started with the show jumping final followed by the dressage final where both finalists ride against other two trials. First in the show jumping Ben Crawford controlled better horses and finally won the first gold medal. The second, Rosalinda Canter made a very impressive and fast trials but her horse deflated one obstacle which counted to the final result. Denisot, from France took the bronze according his previous results in the semi-final.

The final for the Dressage event was composed of two trials. First free, where the cavaliers ride on the music and the second compulsory. Denisot from France impressed the jury and won his second medal, but gold this time. The second place and silver medal goes to Germany for Julia Kappel who made a couple of mistakes in the compulsory programme.
The results of the team event and combination event were counted immediately after the end of the dressage and jumping events. The Swiss dominated the team event as they won all three gold medals in the team event in Dressage, Show Jumping and Combination and were joined on the medal podium twice by France (silver and bronze) and once by Poland, Canada, Belgium and Germany.
Closing Ceremony
After the awarding ceremonies the Closing Ceremony took place at the Equestrian Military Academy. The Closing Ceremony started with the Algerian national anthem. After the anthem the representative of the Organizing Committee Mr. Hassan Chikh and the representative of the FISU Executive Committee Mr. Omar Al-Hai said the closing speeches. Mr. Al-Hai thanked all organizers for their effort within the organizations of the 8th World University Equestrian Championship. The FISU flag went from the hand of the Organizing Committee through the FISU representative to the hand of representatives of the Sangju Organizing committee of the 9th World University Equestrian Championship.
