Former WU Ice Hockey Players Star in 2007 IIHF World Championships

In April and May the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) stages its Men’s World Championships in different divisions. Former Winter Universiade participants participated in the highest divisions. Some even excelled in winning medals as well. As was the case for the players from Poland and Kazakhstan who won silver and bronze respectively at the Division 1 WC in Qiqihar, China. Japan’s NISHIWAKI Masahito was the third best ranked goal scorer of the Division 1, Group A in Ljubjana, Slovenia. The participation of former WU participants at important international championships once more is a sign that the ice hockey tournament of the Winter World University Games has become a high level sporting event and an important stepping stone for student-athletes envisaging a future sporting career.
