2008 WUC Bridge: Update

Early Spring FISU Technical Chair for Bridge Geert Magerman made an inspection visit of the venue and accommodations of the 2008 World University Bridge Championship which will be hosted in the city of Lodz, Poland. It became clear that once more we will have a wonderful championships in Lodz. All activity will take place on the same campus, only 1km from the centre of Lodz. The playing area is a sports hall, and the sleeping area is a refurbished house at the campus. The city and the region of Lodz are very much supporting this event. The Organizing Committee foresees a lot of activities. Not only will there be an opening ceremony in the new campus, the closing ceremony will take place in a theatre in Lodz. Every evening, there will be free time with a lot of activities. A sport competition is planned as well, e.g. football, an evening in the disco at the campus and a visit to the music festival which will take place at that time in the city centre. After the closing ceremony, there will be a student party. Last but not least, the Polish Bridge Federation will support this event with all technical means they have in their possession. Two matches will be broadcasted on internet-BBO. Also the running scores of all matches will be broadcasted. At the site, there will be comments by Polish top players. And the referees will be of international level. All elements are there to make it a great event.
