2008 WUC Equestrian: Update
October 8th, 2008

The competition venue
The 8th World University Equestrian Championship is organized the first time on the African continent. Algiers, the capital of Algeria is the meeting point for 17 countries participating in this splendid sport. The Algerian University Sports Federation together with the Algerian Equestrian Federation with the support of the Military Equestrian Academy prepared a very nice competition venue and provided the horses for the participating cavaliers. Yesterday, October 7th, gave the FISU CISCA members the opportunity to meet with the President of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Hassan Chikh, who is also FISU vice-president as well as the President of FASU, the African continental member association. Daniel Armbruster, FISU Technical Chair for Equestrian and Paul Weier (SUI), the FEI technical Delegate paid a visit to the competition venue. During the inspection the OC prepared a small course for the horses and both technical delegates carefully selected the horses for the jumping competition.
Dr. Questel, the FISU Medical Committee representative met with the doctors and veterinarians of the Organizing Committee. The work meeting was held at the Equestrian centre. The information given by Mr. Bensalem Abdellah was satisfactory as medical care, presence of the ambulance and the doping control room were set up according the needs of the international event and the FISU medical guidelines. Dr. Questel also visited Hotel Adghir where he paid attention to the catering service, medical presence and the quality of the accommodation. All these issues are on top notch.
Accommodation
The organizers prepared a very nice accommodation place in the Hotel Adghir for the participants. The referees are accommodated at the Hotel Djazair and FISU Family at the Hilton Hotel just five minutes away from the competition venue.
