Continental Association News: 2008 AUSF Table Tennis Championship in Ulaanbaatar

Every two years, The Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) organizes University Sports Championships among Asian students in more than 10 events. The Asian University Table Tennis Championship will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from April 24th to 27th, 2008 which will be a first for Mongolia. Mongolian Student Sports Federation has won the right to host the 1st Asian University Table Tennis Championship 2008 (AUTTC) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia during the 5th General Assembly meeting in Shenzhen, China from July 14th-16th, 2007. The Organizing Committee was established by the prescript of the Government, Mongolia and 19 members are working in the OC including Chairman of Mongolian State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, Head of Secretariat Ulaanbaatar City Government , General Director, Consulate Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and General Director, Department of Education and Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The Organizing Committee is governed by Mrs. J. Tsolmon, the Vice-Ministry of Health and it is a key agency that is a responsible for organizing the entire Championship. The Daily work of this Championship preperation work is don by the staff of the Mongolian Student Sports Federation. They have a very good experience through the organization of the 7th World University Chess Championship in 2002 and the 7th World University Wrestling Championship in 2006. Also Mongolian Student Sports Federation will organize the World University Boxing Championship in 2010.

So far 17 countries informed their participation in the 1st Asian University Table Tennis Championship including Japan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, Macau, Thailand, Kazakhstan, India, Iran, Kyrgizstan, Jordan and Nepal. Seven of these countries will participate with 15 delegates such as Hong Kong, China, Japan, China, Mongolia and Macau. Ms. Laura Yan (CHN), Secretariat of the Asian University Sports Federation and Dr. Cheong-Ki CHAN (SIN), Technical Delegate of AUSF arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on March 29th, 2008 for an inspection visit. Mrs. Tsolmon, President of the OC and Vice-Ministry of Health, Mr. Naranbaatar, Vice-President of the OC and Chairman of the Mongolian State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, Mr. Jargalsaikhan, Assessor of AUSF, Secretary-General of the OC and Secretary-General of the Mongolian Student Sports Federation and other official delegates welcomed the inspection team and met with them in the Central Sport Palace. Inspectors of AUSF and ATTU appreciated the preperation work of this big event.

According to the ITTF rules the OC bought standard table tennis table from TIBHAR, Germany and standard floor from Gerflor, France. The competition will be held in the Central Sport Palace of Ulaanbaatar city. Athletes and official delegates of the 1st Asian University Table Tennis Championship will stay in the 3-star “Flower Hotel”. The TV9 Channel of Mongolia has been entitled to broadcast live the 1st Asian University Table Tennis Championship. During the Championship about 50 volunteers, mostly students from 10 Universities will work in the Championship and the OC has organized 2 seminars to prepare them to work in the OC. Monnis group and Liebherr group are official sponsors of this event and Golomt bank, Summit Co., Ltd and Sod Press Co., Ltd are sponsoring the Championship. An official website has been set up for the 1st AUTTC via http://www.mssf.mn. The Organizing Committee is working in close cooperation with the Mongolian State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, the Mongolian Student Sports Federation and the Mongolian Table Tennis Association. This year, the Asian University Boxing Championship will be staged in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the Asian University Handball Championship in Korea, the Asian University Men’s Football Championship in Chinese Taipei and the Asian University Athletics Championship in Jordan.

MSSF has become a very active MA

Since the turning of the century, the Mongolian University Sports Federation has become a very active member association in the International Unviersity Sports Movement. In the 2002 and 2006 MSSF staged two successfull World University Championships, Chess and Wrestling respectively and Boxing was attributed for 2010. Mr. Bayasgalan, the president of MSSF was elected assessor in 2003 and re-elected in 2007 as the new Treasurer of FISU. Mongolian athletes participate in WUC as well as the Winter and Summer Universiades and return often with medals to their country. This year MSSF is going to send student-competitors to the 2008 Archery, Wrestling, Boxing, Sport Shooting and Weightlifting World University Championship. Recently Mongolian student-athletes made a very good start in this year’s FISU events. In the 10th World University Chess Championsip in Russia, Mongolian athletes won the team bronze medal.
