2008 WUC Floorball: Update

Opening Ceremony
Yesterday, November 5th, the FISU delegates were welcomed by the Finnish Student Sports Federation and by the Organising Committee of the 3rd World University Floorball Championship. The office of the Organising Committee, the housing and one part of the facilities are located in the High Performance Training Center in Kuortane, Finland. During the CISCA meeting, Tapio Korjus, President of the OC made a general overview of the championship. Mr. Marian Dymalski, CISCA Chair and FISU EC member, made a short overview of the requests of FISU and also thanked the OC for the excellent preparation of the event. Csaba Hedi, CIC member; Dr. Katzmaier Peter, CMI delegate and Mr Ari Vehniäinen, Technical Chair for Floorball gave summary of their mission. Mr. Jukka Tirri, Secretary General of the Finnish Student Sports Federation welcomed the CISCA members in the name of his federation. Mr. Csaba Hedi, started the first accreditation of the delegations yesterday morning.
The Japanese men and women teams have already played two exhibition games against two local teams as part of their preparation for the 3rd World University Championship The Organising Committee in collaboration with the Finnish Floorball Federation organised a seminar for the coaches. This seminar was a great success as the auditorium was full to the brim. The general technical meeting was organised in presence of all the delegations and the OC with the CISCA Members. All details of the championship were explained.
The Opening Ceremony in the Kuortane main sport hall started with the playing and the raising of the Finnish Flag, directly followed by the march pass of the participating countries: Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Latvia, Sweden, Switzerland and Finland. The President of the Organising Committee, Mr. Tapio Korjus welcomed the participants and he stressed his hope that the participants can enjoy the country of Finland and he underlined the fact that was the first time that the women’s tournament is organised. ‘On behalf of the President of FISU, Mr. George E. Killian and my colleagues in FISU, I have the honour to express the best wishes and greetings for the 3rd World University Floorball Championship, held in this beautiful region’, Mr. Dymalski declared during his speech.
