2009 SU: CSU Meeting in Belgrade

On December 2nd, members of the FISU Summer Universiade Supervision Committee had their first day of inspection visit in Belgrade, Serbia, host of the 25th Universiade in 2009. Mr. George E. Killian, FISU President; Mr. Kemal Tamer and Mr. Stavros Douvis both FISU Assessors were assisted by Eric Saintrond FISU Secretary-General and Kolë Gjeloshaj Chief of Staff to the President. The FISU delegates visited 6 venues as well as the Athletes’ Village. Their guide during the visits was Mr. Sinisa Jasnic, FISU Assessor and Vice-Chair of the Organising Committee.
Beograd Red Star Football Stadium
The venues they visited were Sumice, Red Star Stadium, Banjica, OFK Beograd stadium, Tasmajdan and Pionir. These venues will host the competitions of Basketball, Football, Handball, Swimming, Track and Field, Volleyball and Waterpolo. A special attention was paid to the Athletes’ Village. The visit of the Athletes’ Village, which is under construction in the part of the city called Novi Beograd, started with a presentation to the press made by the Organising Committee and the Companies involved in the building of the Athletes’ Village. This presentation was followed by a visit on site. The works initiated this summer are in good progress for what will be the biggest Universiade ever as 21 sports are on the programme. At the Red Star stadium, the members had a meeting regarding the Opening Ceremony.
