2008 WUC Golf: Day 1

On September 2nd, the competition started on the very demanding Gary Player Golf Course in Sun City. In the men's competition Leonardo Motta from Italy played the best score (68), followed by David Booth from Great Britain (69). Three players noticed 72 shots, among them with Satoshi Kodaira from Japan the best Asian player after the first round.
Hertzog Landman was the best from the host country with a score of 73. In the men's tournament the differences of levels are very big. The last two players after the first day, Ren Chao (170) and Zhou Yu (195) both from China, played such a high score that at the technical meeting the coaches proposed some changes in the regulations for the future in order to avoid the problems which occured in the concerned flight as disadvantage for other players.

In the Men's Team Gross Scores Great Britain (218) took the lead, followed by Italy (220) and Spain (222). Close behind the best three times are Japan (223) and South Africa (229). In the Ladies Tournament, Switzerland (147) is first after the first round, followed by the United States (149) and France (156). Great Britain (157) and Japan (159) are close behind them. In the individual positions Katie Tewell from the USA finished the first round with a fine score of 72, one point ahead of Nathalie Tanno and two ahead of Caroline Rominger, both from Switzerland.
