Host Bangkok is Ready for the 24th Summer Universiade

Today, April 3rd, Minister of Education Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-An presided over the press conference during the official kick-off ceremony for the 24th Summer Universiade at the Bangkok Convention Centre Hall, with Dr. Sumet Yaemnoon, Deputy Secretary of the Higher Education Committee and Executive Director of the 24th Bangkok Universiade as the guest of honour. To the delight of the Thai, to host the 2007 Universiade is a truly auspicious occasion as it is a chance to celebrate the 80th birthday of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Additionally, the Thai also take great pride in hosting these Games. ‘As host, we are ready for the 24th Universiade’, Professor Wichit said at the press conference. ‘We had already experienced hosting many major international sporting events which resulted in our best preparation in all aspects such as the competition venues, athletes’ village, transportation, protocols as well as the live broadcast of sporting competitions, the main press centre and the international broadcasting centre.
We are ready to give a warm welcome to the athletes, officials and all visitors from the participating universities around the world to visit Thailand in an atmosphere of cordial friendship and smiles. To host the 24th Universiade will be of great benefit to everyone involved, especially the youngsters who, in a not to distant future, will become important human resources of all nations’, the Minister said.
