German Hosts Are Ready!
During the start of the 4th World University Beachvolleyball Championship Hamburg presented itself with sunshine, calm wind and the inlet of the luxury liner ‘Europa’ which passed the centre court. On the venue of the former England ferry dock national and international beachvolleyball teams will offer top class sport until Sunday night. Since Monday night the whole German delegation has been in Hamburg. The U23 federal talents coach Jörg Ahmann nominated the athletes who went to the venue for their first training on location yesterday. Thereby Tom Götz (HU Berlin) and Markus Böckermann (FH Kiel) used the chance to test the conditions and played against Sebastian Dollinger and Florian Lüdike (both University of Berlin) the other German team. 23 year old Tom Götz said positively: ‘We are very satisfied with the sand, it is non slippery and hard.’ Subsequently the women’s teams with Ruth Fleming and Stefanie Hüttermann (both DSHS Cologne), as well as Julia Großner (HU Berlin) and Frederike Fischer (Hamburger University) played on the courts between the beachclubs Lago Bay and Del mar. Stefanie Hüttermann is impressed by the atmosphere, ‘The venue is perfect for a beach volleyball event like this.’ The four German teams practiced very concentrated but still enjoyed themselves. Ahmann feels that the mood on and off the beach volleyball court is excellent and adds ‘The athletes are fit and cant wait for the first game’. This are the best conditions to compete with the leading nations like Brazil and the USA.
