The 2005 FISU Conference took place in the frame of the 2005 International Year of Sport and Physical Education. Satisfaction The conference fitted with the expectations of CESU members: high scientific level, good participation: - 70 to 150 participants in the keynote speakers sessions many of them from the Universiade Village; - 46 posters from 9 countries; - 48 oral presentations from 11 countries. Pertinent questions and comments from the audience, good exchanges during oral presentations and poster sessions (and during breaks!) Sport is more than «sport»: - elite sport - mass sport - mediatic - non mediatic Christian Wopp - Giannis Koukoulas & Attila Gökce Sports changes rapidly: - in various aspects - in a changing global world ruled by the «market» and the «media» - short term aims - violence - racism - arrogance Christian Wopp - Giannis Koukoulas & Attila Gökce - Seyhan Hasirci There are different visions of sport: - North America - Europe - Asia - Oceania -Africa - South America Supitr Samahito - Maarten Van Bottenburg Petros Musidacho - Shams Zeinalabdin University changes rapidly in various aspects: - in a highly technological society - changes from a learned society to a learning society There are different models of universities North America - Europe - Asia - Oceania Africa - South America Supitr Samahito - Maarten Van Bottenburg Petros Musidacho - Shams Zeinalabdin Sport is not only a matter of education in universities: - sport might be considered as giving « prestige » to a university - sport might be considered a way to make university life more attractive Maarten Van Bottenburg Sport can be an aim or a tool -for fondamental or applied medical researches in universities Lawrence Rink - Jim Skinner - Dusan Hamar Sport - Ethics - Education -it is important to preserve the positive values of sport which favour harmonious development of the personality and not to identify ourselves with negative values of sport Attila Erdemli Repeating that sport is part of education is not sufficient - students should first be teached what is sport and what is the ethic of sport then only the practice of sports can be used as an educational tool - the exemplarity of champions relaying through the media - the educational projects of the universities FISU -should not be a sport structure like other sport structures that devote themselves to organize big spectacular sport events (performances) for profit’s sake only FISU - must justify its u: - and reinvest the benefits of big events like the universiade to support the educational role of sport in the universities with a special regard to those countries where university sports is very weak Anne Kettunen & Richard Toomer FISU - should support the efforts of national federations of university sport to give the best possible formations and informations to their students - We should be able to listen and answer students Anne Kettunen & Richard Toomer
