FISU at the AIPS Congress - Day 3

SEOUL Today, March 24th, the afternoon session of the 74th AIPS Congress was dominated by university sport. Indeed, Leonz Eder, Chair of the FISU International Press Committee and Verena Burk, Vice-Chair of the IPC gave an overview of the recently held Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey and also introduced the hosts of the next three Summer Universiades, i.e. Shenzhen (2011), Kazan (2013) and Gwangju (2015). Ting Ting Shen from the Media Department of the Shenzhen Universiade gave an update of the upcoming FISU Summer Games and noted that the media accreditation form is already online on the AIPS website.

Farid Abdulganiev, the Mayor of the Kazan Universiade Village showed the progress on the venues for the 27th Summer Universiade. The Kazan OC invited the AIPS delegates to enter a raffle for three free inspection visits to Kazan and delegates from China, Moldova and Cyprus were the lucky ones.

The presentation by Yoon-suk Kim, the Secretary-General of the Gwangju Universiade got some extra attention, especially from the Korean press. He was preceded by the Mayor of Gwangju who also addressed the Congress delegates about his city and the Universiade projects.

During the morning session of the Congress, Rik Lamoral gave an interesting report of the New Media Commission of the AIPS, while Paul Pedersen, researcher at the Indiana University gave an academic insight on new media while Jaeyoung Chiung of KBS Broadcasting talked about globalization and glocalization of sports in this era.

Jayne Pearce, Head of Press Operations London 2012.gave an update for the media participating at the 2012 Olympics, while Nicolas Maingot, Acting Director FIFA Communications, gave an overview of the 2011 FIFA events with a special focus on the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Congress delegates also witnessed a Sambo wrestling exhibition and a presentation form Philippe Silacci, the FIG Media Operations Officer.

 

 

Today, the FISU delegates also had a meeting with the Shenzhen delegates regadring the Young Journalists Seminar and the media matters regarding the upcoming Head of Delegation meeting in April.
