Softball

The History of Softball in FISU

Softball entered the programme of the FISU World University Championships in 2004 with a first edition organised in Plant City (USA), which welcomed 129 softball players from 8 countries. Since then, only one edition took place, in Tainan City (TPE), and the next edition will be organised once again in the USA, in Colorado Springs, the home country of softball.

FISU Regulations

The women’s softball tournament shall be organised in accordance with the most recent technical rules of the International Softball Federation (ISF). In any dispute the English text shall be authoritative. The programme and the duration of the competitions are fixed by the Executive Committee in agreement with the Organising Committee and the CTI. The competitions will last seven (7) days and will include the following events: one women’s tournament


Minimum Requirements for Softball

The Organising Committee must provide, for exclusive use, suitable facilities with full support facilities to stage the softball competition, as approved by the softball CT. The ISF regulations must be followed.

The playing field is divided into three main sections:

  • The infield, containing the four bases, is for general defensive purposes bounded by the foul lines and within the grass line (see figure).
  • The outfield is the grassed area beyond the infield grass line between the foul lines, and bounded by a wall or fence.
  • The foul territory is the entire area outside the foul lines.
