The History of Boxing in FISU

The 1st World University Boxing Championship took place in 2004 in Antalya, Turkey, making boxing one of the young sports within the programme of the FISU World University Championships.
Attracting around a hundred of the best student boxers for the four first editions in such countries where boxing is one of the top sports as Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, the WUC Boxing is a top-level event that FISU will continue to develop.

 

FISU Regulations

The boxing competitions will be organised in accordance with the most recent technical rules of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) unless otherwise stated. In case of disagreement in the interpretation of these rules, the English text will be regarded as authoritative. The programme and duration of the competitions are fixed by the Executive Committee in agreement with the Organising Committee and the CTI. The competitions will last six (6) days and will include individual event in the following weight categories:

  • Men’s competitions: 46kg - 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg, +91kg


Each country is authorised to enter one (1) competitor for each weight category. Each boxer must have a valid AIBA record book with a current medical record.
Each country is autorised to enter a maximum of eighteen (18) participants, of whom maximum eleven (11) athletes and seven (7) officials.
The countries must declare their starters to the CT 24 hours before the official weighting.

 

Minimum Requirements for Boxing 

The Organising Committee must provide, for exclusive use, suitable facilities to stage the boxing competition, with full support facilities, as approved by the boxing CT. The AIBA regulations must be followed.

  • The competition hall must be large enough to contain a minimum of four (4) rings in correspondence with the international competition norms.
  • The training venue must be large enough to contain a minimum of twenty (20) rings in correspondence with the international competition norms.
  • The competition hall and annexes must be protected against unauthorised intrusion by a system of passes, controlled by an official security service.
  • Electronic scoreboards visible throughout the competition hall.
  • A display system for the competitors’ names.
  • Stand-by manual and scoring facilities.
  • A gong or another audible system, which must be separate for each ring.
  • Various flags required by the AIBA refereeing rules.
  • A public-address system (microphone), which may be connected to those of the other rings, but must be distinct from that of the official table.
  • Annexes to the Competition Hall
  • Two (2) weigh-in rooms are required (one for women, one for men)
  • Medical service
