Special Annoucements
FISU is closely monitoring the Swine Flu (H1N1 Viral Illness).
Fortunately this influenza virus in its current form does not appear to be as virulent as initially believed. With the exception of the outbreak in Mexico, which is not fully understood, the H1N1 virus tends to cause very mild illness in healthy people. Outside of Mexico nearly all cases and all deaths have been detected in people with chronic underlying conditions. The H1N1 virus appears to be more contagious than seasonal influenza.
The Avian Influenza H5N1 is closely monitored by the World Health Organization. FISU has significant experience in monitoring this virus.
The FISU Medical Committee and the Medical Organizations in Serbia responsible for the 2009 SUmmer Universiade are working closely together to make sure all participants in the Games are protected. There may be certain requirements asked of participants coming to the Games including, "if you have a viral illness within seven days of time for your departure for Serbia, you should not participate and travel to Serbia."
