2011 SU Update: Polish Delegation for the Shenzhen

WARSAW - Polish teams have participated in the Summer Universiades since the very first one, in Torino in 1959.

211 people fromPolandare leaving for the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen including 150 athletes, who will be competing in 16 disciplines:

- Artistic gymnastics

- Athletics

- Basketball

- Beach volleyball

- Chess

- Diving

- Fencing

- Golf

- Judo

- Sailing

- Shooting

- Swimming

- Taekwondo

- Tennis

- Volleyball

- Weight lifting

 

The most titled athlete in the Polish team is the swimmer, Paweł Korzeniowski, holding several medals in World andEuropechampionships. However, the Polish are also counting on other team members being contenders, among others in shooting, athletics, judo, fencing and sailing.

The Polish delegation is headed by Tomasz Szponder, Vice-President of the Polish University Sports Association, while his deputies are Bartek Korpak, Secretary-General of the University Sports Association and Lech Leszczyński, Vice-President of the University Sports Association.

The official farewell ceremony of the Polish delegation is planned for Monday, 8th August in the Chinese Embassy in Warsaw.
